The World Is Yours, a shelf packed with “how-to” books, explores the absurd side of do-it-yourself publishing and attitudes. Each uniquely designed cover proposes to impart some dubious knowledge onto its imagined reader. The topics and techniques described are assorted and varied, raging from the absurd, to the impossible, to the nearly plausible. And while “how-to” books may be held in less esteem than other genres of writing and reading, they can tell us a great deal about our contemporary condition, especially if we choose to see culture as all the various objects, practices, and relations that define our world in general.
