Wheel

2011
Wood, paint, aluminum, hardware
156 inches in diameter x 37 inches tall

Wheel draws on one of the most recognizable and iconic aspects of popular culture—the game show. Fully functioning, the sculpture conjures an unseen contestant grabbing and spinning it in anticipation of a life-changing event. But, instead of the expected extreme highs and lows required to give such competitions their drama, Wheel’s segments promise nothing but the banal and the mundane. A result of its epic game-show-proportions, Wheel imparts grandeur onto the activities that constitute everyday lived life, the mostly flattened and unexciting crests and valleys of monotonous existence.
