Cornerstore

2009
Installation

Cornerstore is an immersive environmental installation made of an eclectic variety of objects, videos, drawings, as well as paintings and sculptures. Inspired by attitudes toward space and aesthetic arrangement found in homegrown, localized convenient stores, Cornerstore comes with a plethora of hand-made products, fixtures, advertisements, and even Okay Mountain cashiers. All items are for sale, including a soundtrack produced specifically for the store. The installation was commissioned by Arthouse and first exhibited at PULSE Miami (2009). By transforming the typical art fair booth into an imaginative warehouse stocked with economical art-items, Cornerstore offered a democratic and disorienting experience unlikely to be found elsewhere, and as a result received both the PULSE Prize and Viewer’s Choice Award.
