In conjunction with Kansas City’s Urban Culture Project
and the Charlotte Street Foundation, Okay Mountain is pleased to
present “Slow Cooked” – New Work from Kansas City, curated by Sterling
Allen. The show is one half of an exchange project wherein the
communities of Austin and Kansas City are brought a bit closer due to
the sharing of each city’s artists and resources. The other half of
this collaborative effort culminates in two exhibitions at Kansas
City’s Paragraph Gallery; one featuring six Austin-based artists,
curated by Kate Hackman and Grant Miller and one featuring a
collaborative show by the partners and members of Okay Mountain gallery.

Though the formal and conceptual aspects of the five
artists chosen for “Slow Cooked” are very different, an underlying
detail to all the work is what seems to be a solid commitment to an
idea and the patience necessary to carry that work into frutition.
Though somewhat of a survey, this exhibition can also be seen as an
alternative to a current trend of artists who make work hastily or
with little regard for craft. Artists include Marcus Cain, Michael
Converse, Colin Leipelt, Kacy Maddux, and James Woodfill.
